I am reading a book called The Code of the Extra-ordinary mind by Vishen Lakhani. I am not a vivid reader, but this book kinda struck me in awe. While reading this I thought it would be fun, If I share my learnings through blogs and I could understand it better, goes either way.
Even I would suggest giving a read to my blog about culturescape
There are four levels of consciousness as stated by the author are,
- Level 1 — The Victim Stage
- Level 2 — The Awakening
- Level 3 — Recoding Yourself
- Level 4 — Becoming Extraordinary
Now will look into Level 1 — The Victim Stage is where the majority of us buckling inside. From my own perspective, almost 80 % of humans fall into this category somehow.
In this stage (Level — 1) we believe life happens to us, life being droved by nothing but the culture scape around us. Our life works on the principle of movement with the herds of cattle.
We fall into the trap of tradition, and we abide by it. We can't just blame the tradition, we care more about society and live by the means of rules of society. More concerned about how others might think about your views.
Absolute Truth Vs Relative Truth
This is the important thing we failed to understand is in Level 1. The idea behind the different version of the truth, which is crucial to understand to break out from Level 1.
This is something true at all places and it cannot be changed under any circumstances. These are truths accepted Universally by everyone without a change in perception. For instance,
- Death is real, everyone has to die someday.
- Food and water are essential for living a life.
You could have got an idea whats exactly means absolute truth, which is something we all agree on.
These are truths built by humans themselves years ago to ease or make their living easier. Almost whatever we look around ourselves nothing but relative truth but they seem like a universal truth among us. Why?
Simple, it's been practiced in our family or tribe for years and we been taught these are ways of living. When we question them at times, we have been told it's an inappropriate act to do so.
If you pause the reading for a moment and think about whether have you faced this? For sure you would have, but you weren't aware of the difference between the truths.
Lemme put some examples, instances which is really common merely taken into consideration as absolute truth,
- You need a college degree to be successful in your life.
- We must work hard to be successful.
- We should marry someone within our ethnicity and tribe.
- Following one religion.
- Aim for a job after college, and don't dream big. Be secured or live in a shell without any risks.
If you could observe these all stuff had been demolished or broken by a lot of individuals. But still, we have been not taking any steps to accomplish it.
We still hiding inside the victim stage and counting life is good and happier. it’s never been happier, your bars are set low and you choose to lick things inside the bar.
What's beyond the bar?
Oh shit! We never cared to explore it.
This is why it's called as Victime Stage, we being trapped inside even without any acknowledgment.
Tradition is peer pressure from dead people
Hope you find your way out of the victim stage soon enough...
