I am not a vivid-reader I never was, but for the past 4 months, since I put myself into a newer dimension of improving myself day by day, I found that reading should be my daily meal. Before I never finished a book or usually get stuck before the 50th page of the book.
Whenever I put myself up for reading, passing in 5 mins my eyes start to feel sober or feel fatigued. I blame the book but it turns out to be my state of mind wasn’t appreciating me reading. It was much trying to shift my focus onto something enjoyable.
Why does it happen?
I was trying to find is it just me or does happen with everyone, but figured out it’s common out there, a gut feeling I am not alone in this. Even after still, I was still worried to fix this up, whenever I hold a book I feel fatigued passing 5 minutes by.
I hit up the internet like I always do for anything, read some articles, and watched videos.
So I found some exciting insights and a way to improve our reading. I was blown away by all those facts lemme put them here so anyone up there like me might find them useful!
Reading should be Active
Most people while reading isn’t an active process, they are not involved. It's like what we put in is what we are going to get out, here we are building our mental muscles likewise our physical muscles we work hard and stretch it.
Once a person's mind is stretched by a newer idea it never regains its original dimension. When it comes to reading the key is consistency, we should understand our motive to take the action.
Put yourself into the moment be it 15 minutes or 30 minutes, kick out distraction, prefer a place just you and the books.
Have a pen and use it as your physical cursor pointing each word while reading, if a sentence or word excites you highlight them.
Usually me after reading, I skim through what I read and take certain important points which I feel will help me (in writing blogs and while speaking), in this way reading becomes active.
Everyone has a different way of doing this, you can customize it up depends on your needs. I take ideas and customize them to set my needs.
Level up your State
The state of your mind and your body, how we feel and mood. Because all learning is state-dependent.
Information combined with emotions, become’s long term memory.
Most of the time when we read we feel fatigued, our eyes get tired which leads to inefficient reading. We can control our state but we let ourselves fatigue, concluding that's how our mind wants to be.
When we are good at something we enjoy it and the emotions go up and we tend to do it more often.
Confidence — Competence -Loop : a positive circle of confidence and competence strengthening each other.
The more confidence we get at something, the more practice or time we spend on it enlarges, this eventually paves the way for increasing our competence.
We should fall in love with things to change the state because learning depends on how is the state of our mind.
As I say in my all blogs have a purpose, see the contents of what you are going to read today,
- If it’s something like self-discipline, then think about how can you apply this in your life.
- Feel how this might change your behaviors and build you into a better human, visualize the impact this can get you.
By doing this a small pinch of motivation kicks in, which can get you started because you know what’s the outcome when you read it. Be present at the moment don’t ever read for the sake of reading, in other words reading should be comprehensive.
This is the first blog in the reading series, I am planning to write more on this. These are things that I find useful to me and eventually to others.
So if you find it interesting leave your response or a clap will encourage me to write more meaningful content!
Have a great day!
